School Disco, falling asleep during Evita, Dublin and the International Rules
Good afternoon everyone
Well, its Tuesday afternoon here and Im still recovering from the big weekend in Dublin and School Disco..
Whats been news since talking about wonderful Norway..
As Ive been away for 4 weekends in a row, I decided to have a 'quiet' weekend and check out School Disco in London with some mates of mine... for those that dont know what School Disco is, its basically an opportunity to get dressed up into your school uniform and go to this massive club that plays all the cheezy music you used to love at school... (although for me for much of it I was out of school) The first task was trying to find something to wear, so I borrowed a tie off a friend of mine (proper English school tie) and then decided to go to PrimeArc to see if I can find some shorts.. unfortunately, I couldnt find any shorts (due to the season) so I had to settle on some school pants and a white shirt(thanks Em for being patient as I tried on 20 shirts).. I think next time I will get the shorts and long socks happening!
We had a pre-match at a friends house, where they all wrote comments on my shirt and I also took my black pen out.. It was a super night and I even danced on the front stage.. Im not sure if I will go again but its definitely worth at least one visit.. (it was fun to read what random people wrote on my shirt!)
The following week, I checked out my first movie in London and I went to see Evita the musical.. I would love to tell you about it but unfortunately I kind of fell asleep during the last half of it.. it was that exciting and the movie wasnt much better!
Still going to teach computers at Brent Mind, which is going well and Im finding that Im learning along the way as well.. and loving going to the shelter on Thursday evenings.. seeing Ive been there for a few weeks now Ive really built a good rapport with the clients and also the team..
Well, weekend just gone was the big one... I visited Dublin!! Mainer, Kristy, Emma, Fee and myself left London (very late due to Ryanair and their scheduling issues!!) I met Coachy up there and we stayed at my friends Anita's house.. (thanks Anita) Due to the delay we didnt get to Anita's to around 1230 so we decided to have a quiet one to have a good day of sightseeing the following day.. We started our day at Trinity College and then took the Tourist bus around Dublin, stopping off at a park (that Central park in NY was modelled on) and then to the Guinness Factory, which I was really looking forward to..
The line was huge at the factory, so Mainer and Coachy gave it a miss so I waited with Emma and Fee (thanks guys!) .. it was a good afternoon going through the factory (although I was a little disappointed as like any big tourist attraction it is slighty commercialised) The three of us had a fun afternoon with the highlight being the free pint of guiness on the rooftop bar that overlooks Dublin...
That evening I checked out a small portion of the Dublin nightlife.. the final place we ended up reminded me of the Irish version of Barrys.. very scary!!! Although everyone there was keen to tell me how the Irish were going to kick our arse on Sunday..
THat brings me to the whole reason for the trip up north.. to see Australia play in the International Rules game against Ireland.. It was so nice to put my Maggies top back on.. its been a while! and go to the footy.. the atmosphere walking there was just amazing.. felt like Grand Final day in Melbourne... everyone was giving us some friendly heckling... actually, waiting at the gate to go through, about 20 Irish young kids were not backward in coming forward in telling me how good Ireland were and how they were going to show Australia a thing or two.. I tried to stick up for us but I was greatly outnumbered and the other guys were just laughing at me.. funniest comment was a young kid that told me that Ireland were going to win due to the luck of the Irish.. Our seats were quite high up but I must admit the view was really good.. one of those stadiums were there arent any bad seats in the house..
It was a packed house, around 82000 screaming fans and we sang the Aussie national anthem full of gusto and pride and then the game was on.. after the spiteful first quarter the game and competitive first half the game died a slow death in the second half into a one-sided contest..
It was heaps of fun and even after the game all the local fans were in high spirits and just keen to have a beer...
So, that was my weekend.. very entertaining with some late nights....
Im off to Krakow this weekend and then the following weekend I go to the States b4 going home for a week...
It will be nice to get some sun as the weather has turned cold very cold... although everyone here keeps reminding me that I havent felt anything yet.. I must admit Im enjoying wearing 6 layers of clothing to work with gloves, scarves and I think I might have to ruin my hair and wear a beanie!!! But that will only happen if my ears start going blue...
Hope everyone is well and I hope to see you at my catchup in December!
Cheers
Troy
