Croatia '07

Hello everyone from a miserable and overcast London… Im definitely back to reality after my amazing 7 days in Croatia.
Where do I start?? Well, after the ferry trip from hell (I literally thought I was sleeping in the water, it was that rough)
I arrived in the delightful Split to rays of sunshine!! Yay! I spent the first day soaking up the rays on the beach and generally relaxing as I knew the next 7 days were going to be fairly full on!
On the Saturday I boarded the boat and it was quite strange at the start as I was basically going to be living, breathing and eating with 34 other complete strangers. (Well, 33 as I knew one of them from football )
After the nervousness of the first morning we started to mingle with one another and I knew from that moment we were all going to get along really well.
We had a fantastic crew that were very laidback and the boat may not win any prizes for being the ‘prettiest’ it was comfortable enough for us to enjoy.
I got to know everyone better on the Saturday nite, as we went for dinner and the older waitress was having trouble taking all the orders so I offered to… very funny!! As most of you would know I am a little bit of a control freak!!!
We all then went out at our first island and enjoyed the local nightlife! After a few cocktails and good old school music, we were already getting along well!! Even me popping out a few trademark moves!! The new crowd were suitably stunned and I think somewhat worried but enjoyed it anyway!
The following day, was like any other we would sail for a while and then stop for a swim in the crystal clear water with a coastline as a backdrop that was as impressive as anywhere I have seen in the world!! Absolutely amazing… I am still speechless as to how beautiful the coastline of Croatia is and the weather…well we were blessed!! Every day was around 26!!!
The best island for me was Hvar, the view from the fortress was stunning and the only disappointment was I climbed it by myself so I had no-one to share it with!!! Ohhhhhhh
Dubroynik (not sure how to spell it!) was up there with Cape Town as the most picturesque city I’ve ever been to in the world. The old town is completely surrounded by a huge wall (which you walk around!) It was built cause it is right on the coast and protected them from intruders from the water!
It is such a beautiful place, I just cant speak high enough of that city!
We had some fun nights out as well, we had a karaoke night out which yours truly was running and somewhat hogging the microphone! Our song for the trip was ‘Bring it all back to me’ by S Club 7…. I kind of sang that a few times!! Sad I know…
We also had a BBQ and free drinks night (which was a little nasty!)
The hardest part of the trip was the lack of sleep, I think I had around 4 hours max. a night! It was all worth it though, I loved the islands and sailing around and going for a swim… I nearly missed the boat one day, as I swimming between the boats and they started to take off and the current was pushing me to shore. Im not the strongest swimmer so I couldn’t fight it… luckily someone came and got me! It was looking like there for a while I was going to be the new Castaway!
As I turned up by myself, I was a little nervous about the whole group as sometimes you get groups that can be very ‘clicky’ but this was definitely not the case! We had such a great group of people, and I cant speak high enough of them.. I made some wonderful friends that I’m sure I will keep in contact with in the future! In some regards it’s a pity that Im now going for 3 months as I have made all these new ‘London’ friends..
Anyway, Im not back in London and slowly getting my stuff together before I leave tomorrow night.. As most of you know Im off to Rwanda to work for 3 months.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous but on the other hand I am very excited about the challenge and hopefully I will be up for it. It is something that I have been wanting to do for many years and it will at least give me the opportunity to see if this is the type of work I would like to do in the future.
I am not sure about internet access while Im away, so please post a comment or send me an email or write me a msg on facebook..
I will try and update this when I get a chance.
Take care and talk to everyone soon!
Cheers
T-roy
